Something funny is happening with a sub-area of my site.

After a major upgrade of my site, the info bar navigation menu in the members area disappeared (even though it is showing in "View Source"). I had this happen once before, but couldn't remember how I fixed it. :oops:

After trying a few different things to fix it, I decided that the menu not showing in the members area pages was actually a good thing because it made it clear where you were.

After making a few more changes in the members area today and then testing the result, I suddenly saw the info bar navigation menu on one members area page. Then I tested the other members area pages and no info bar navigation menu. When I went back to the page it appeared on, it was gone again.

I reckon I have majorly stuffed something up and I bet it has to do with the fact I am using different font styles in the members area.

I have posted the XSP generated source for one of the pages below, if anyone has some spare time on their hands.

I can see something strange right off the bat. There are missing attributes for some of the elements in your inline styles:

In this example from your page, there's no color attribute set for the borders. This is happening in more than one place on that page. Try cleaning that up by either adding the code or removing those elements from the inline style and see what happens.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for the quick resposne! I don't think that is the problem because:

a. it is the code generated by XSP, and
b. it is identical on all pages on the website and the navigation menu correctly displays for those not in the members area

I think it may have something to do with me re-assigning H1, H2 etc further down the page. I have a custom head script for these pages and have unchecked "include global script" but the global head scripts still creeps in.

Hmmm... those are both strange issues. XSitePro shouldn't be generating code like that and the global scripts should be ignored. If you'd like to email me your template I can take a quick look, but I'm wondering if there's a deeper problem here. Try exporting and re-importing the site to reset the site's database, but I wouldn't mind taking a really quick look. My email address is andrea@ablewebs.com.

Strange is the word alright.

This strange behaviour only happens on a few pages - all of which have some php calls to ensure they are only viewable by logged on members, and all have a Custom Head Script because I needed to reset the font styles to overcome a readabilty problem. All of the pages are robot and sitemap restricted as well.

It appears that if I create a new page, add the robot and sitemap restrictions, add the custom head script, add the page code then delete the wonky page and rename the new one (in that order) all works - until I change something on the page.

I am going to try resetting the database.

How do I send you the template?

Ah, until you changed something on the page! That leads me to believe that XSP is changing your custom code... a very common issue. It happens when you close and re-open the page in XSitePro. I haven't had time to test this yet, but, according to Ben at XSitePro, we can now wrap code in these tags and XSP will leave it alone: <designer></designer>.

I had checked to make sure XSP is not altering the few lines of php code - that would have been too easy.

Export and import had no effect (except for the cold sweat I had).
