I am all things computers. I design hardware and computers and build them, I have software certs in Pascal -OO- Java/JavaScript -C#- C/C++ -Objective-C/ Qt / Cocoa, VBS, Perl, PHP, ASP, SQL, Python - Django Framework, Css, HTML, Morse Code (30 words a minute) <---- Had to put that in there. And I have looked for issues with this software. So far I find only one thing I wish we could fix. It could be called. The xchuck backup! nice sound I think.

I have been using Xsitepro2 for about 6 months and I love it. But I hate wasted clicks. On the Xsite pro Backup funtion. I would like to see an advanced Option. The default Xsitepro2 option could be to click for the default backup option for the backup to run and store the backup into a default location. And after it has run to close out this backup option and to start Xsitepro2 right up.

Then an advance option as follows.
Perform back up in area other than default. <--- I know you can do this already but with the advacne option we need it for 2 locations.

Perform backup and store a copy of the backup in 2 different locations. (important if you have a backup drive you rely on for disasters.

Perform backup at (your interval) every-time Xsitepro2 starts with a (conformation splash screen) that you can set to display from 0 seconds to 10 seconds.

An ems warning popup screen if you have not performed a backup in ( Program default can be a week ) with settings to set it to come up if you miss 1 to 20 run times. YES, I mean run times not days. For instance. I will start Xsitepro2 and run some work for maybe 2 or 3 hours. I like shutting Xsitepro2 down when I am not working with it. Lot of times I may have people around and I am client security nutz about leaving nothing up and running when I am not working on it. Well I may run Xsitepro 5 to 8 times in a 24 hour period. Xsitepro brags about making the job so easy to get a lot done really fast. And it's all true. For that reason I may knock out 15 times the website work I used to do in the time it took me to do one site. That is a lot of work to loose in less than 24 hours now. I have to go through steps of backing up every-time I start/close the program. Xsitepro2 is already a dream come through for those of us that are time management crazy like me. This would only make me more crazy about the program and even more people will see the TRUE value of the time it saves in every step of the process.

Not everyone has online backup this would be good yet it would be really really nice if xsite pro would just place a .zip on the server or .xse this way when your crappy best buy computer crashes every six months you can get back to work.... I litterally have had to rebuild 3 sites already ... my sites are large and customized so this is not efficient ... also NOTE: Keeping my entire portfolio of sites would break xsitepro as it has in the past ... therefore a external hard drive is great however ... none of this would be needed if the file was just on the server... it over writes every time and there is a check box that says do not place .zip on server... then you have an option... At this point you can easily retrieve your .zip via file zilla and unpack and restore the files... Not sure the size of the file but .xse might work as well... XsitePro is already the greatest thing since sliced bread this functionality might just make it perfect!!!

 "On the topic of Using online backup tools"... Not sure about dropbox but in my not so humble opinion Carbonite SUX so dont bother with it...

 External hard drives are great... If you remember to plug the thing in and do it every time you add something to a site... This solution would work for all people since the file will be right on the server... This would save me and others as well countless hours ... and does not "seem" like a huge development change... :D

P.S. Keep up the good work XsitePro team... you guys are the best... :!:

This suggestion by bigtob is superb. You don't have to look too far on this forum to see people getting into difficulties caused by not having a recent backup - and it makes so much sense. The online hosting of the website is already being paid for (and hopefully being backed up daily by the provider) - so why not use it to back up the website? Sounds like a perfect backup solution - avoiding the risks associated with an on-site backup using a hard drive (if it ever gets done). I guess it might slow down uploads a tad - but surely just make it an option so that there is some control over it.

Brilliant idea.
