Can anyone tell me if I am able to design a few sites to show what I can do and publish them on my own website without having to have separate domain names for each one???

You can do this by adding subdomains.

So, if the main domain is http://www.acoolwebsite.com, the subdomain would be http://www.subdomain1.acoolwebsite.com.
You can use any name you want for a subdomain.

http://www.aceplumbing.acoolwebsite.com

http://www.aaaflorist.acoolwebsite.com

http://www.paulspizza.acoolwebsite.com

etc.

Note: you will need to publish each "dummy" subdomain website to your server.
