Hi Everyone,

I am quite new to Xsitepro and starting to get a bit more knowledgable but I have hit a problem with the Navigation Menu.
I am having a persistant problem with my left panel navigation menu not responding to the correct color or font being applied!
Some of the menu appears correct and yet other parts are either not the correct color or font size or the bullets are not
appearing when applied!
Also, what does appear when I view the navigation is not what appears when I try to preview it in my browser. I have tried other designs in response to support request and have tried turning on siloing as requested but nothing is helping.
I have spent nearly two weeks now on this issue and just cant move forward with my site!..can anyone advise me on this matter please!
I have tried setting-up a quick test site also to see if the above issue was confined to the site I was developing but I am getting the same issue's with the new site also!
I also have a similar problem with the 'info bar' not setting to the correct hieght no matter what I do! I want a nice slimline
info bar to house a few links and site-search but when I try to include anything in the info-bar the hieght expands to approx double the hieght..really strange!
I dont know if both issue's are linked or not but thought someone out there might have had similar difficulties!

Thank you in advance!

James

Hi, James,

It would help if you could post the site, even to a test directory, so we can see the problems.

As for Info Bar height, that might be related to a couple of things:

1. The Chrome browser responds better when the Info Bar [LINKS_MENU] token is wrapped in <div></div> tags, rather than <p></p> tags. Do this in the Source view.
Code:
<p align="right">[LINKS_MENU]</p>

Change to:

<div align="right">[LINKS_MENU]</div>

2. The width of the Info Bar could be causing it to increase the table cell's height. Check Page Layout > Info Bar > Menu Settings > Step 3. Settings > Menu Width. Try increasing the width to accommodate the links better.

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for the reply and related information, I will try expanding the width of the info bar and see if this helps!

Not quite sure about posting the site yet though, do you mean posting it live to a 'test directory' with a hosting company?

Regards

James

Hi, James,

Just to be clear, you'll be expanding the Info Bar menu width, not the Info Bar itself.

Intellimon© has provided users with some free Web space on their own server to test-publish their Web sites. Details can be found in Lesson 10: Publishing Tab in the Advanced Tutorial guide. The publishing information is:

Hi Andrea,

I managed to publish my site as you suggested, I purchased Xsitepro last summer but did not get into it until a few months ago. I had completed the Tutorial last year and had forgot about the 'Test-Site'.

I did try your suggestion with the menu width for the info bar but could not get it to respond. Anyway its now published and
I would certainly appreciate your advise on the site.

Please note that its still in early design stage but you can see how I have been trying with the layout. I noticed that once it
published, the layout changed again and the 'Opt-In' box has gone funny and the 'Navigation Menu' is a bit of a mess now!

I published it with my name James Garrett.

The site is 'Natural Anxiety-Free Product Reviews'

Thanks again Andrea!and I look forward to your feed back!

PS-I see that you are located in Vancouver, my family and I are moving to Kelowna, BC this coming spring!..my wife
is originally from Alberta.

Best Wishes

James

Hi, James,

The first thing I can see is the many, many blockquotes in the Info Bar (Source view). This will completely mess up the height of that table cell. Also, I don't see the menu token [LINKS_MENU] in the Info Bar.
Code:
<blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

            dir="ltr">

    <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                dir="ltr">

        <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                    dir="ltr">

            <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                        dir="ltr">

                <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                            dir="ltr">

                    <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                                dir="ltr">

                        <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                                    dir="ltr">

                            <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                                        dir="ltr">

                                <blockquote style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px"

                                            dir="ltr">

Hi Andrea,

I had removed the links on the info bar temporarily since I could not get the info bar the way I had required it.
I can see the source looks a bit strange but since I am not familiar with source code I don't really understand what I am
looking at with this.
I'm not sure what the blockquotes are in the source code nor why it looks the way it does. I deleted the info bar a few times
and tried to start from scratch but ended up with the same result.

Hi, James,

Go into the Source view for the Info Bar and remove everything that's there. That will also remove the search box, so you might want to save that code. Then add the Info Bar menu back.

Hi Andrea,

I removed all the source code as requested and then added links to info bar which worked fine. I saved the code for the site search but when I tried to position it in the far right of the info bar it just automatically gets doubled underneath the menu links on the left hand side of the info bar.
Having said that, it is not as high as it was before, although if I exclude the site search it goes to a nice slimline info bar with the menu links.

Yes, the search bar takes up quite a bit of room. You might want to put it somewhere else.

Thanks again Andrea, I will move site search to a new area.
Would you be able to comment on the Navigation Menu and why I am having all these issue's that I mentioned earlier!

I think I'd need to take a look at your template to figure that out. You should be able to change the font colour. Are you changing the colour in the Menu Settings? That's where you need to change it, not in the Page Layout > Left Panel > Font > Color.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the reply, here is what I have found today and this is what I have been trying to work around now for a number of weeks or nearly two months.
The info bar is much better but on checking it today I have found that going into menu settings I tried a simple task to change the menu visited font color to 'firebrick'. In the preview it looked fine but when I clicked finish and then looked at the page layout, only one of the four menu links had taken effect. I then went to preview in browser and they are nowhere to be seen at all.

With regards to the left panel navigation I am having a more serious issue where I am using the menu settings properly to design the menu color and chosen font/bullets etc. In the preview I am not seeing the effects taking place and worse still I
have half of the navigation menu missing.
When I put the cursor over where the links should be they appear in the chosen hover color then disappear when the cursor is
taken away, this is in the browser view.

All in all this is so frustrating Andrea, really, this should be a very simple task to put these templates together and I am spending week after week trying to deal with these issue's and getting nowhere.
Should I now be getting some technical support from Xsitepro for this.

I really appreciate your time and effort in looking at these problems but I feel that I am doing everything as I am supposed to but getting nowhere fast!

Can you let me know what you think please,

Regards

James

Hi, James,

I can see the problem in the CSS for the Left Menu:
Code:
a.mainlinksLEFT_MENU:link    {color: SteelBlue ;  font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; font-family: Book Antiqua; font-size: 10pt ;  }
a.mainlinksLEFT_MENU:visited {color: White ;  font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;font-family: Book Antiqua; font-size: 10pt ;  }
a.mainlinksLEFT_MENU:active  {color: White ;  font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;font-family: Book Antiqua; font-size: 10pt ;  }
a.mainlinksLEFT_MENU:hover   {color: SteelBlue ;  font-weight: bold; text-decoration: underline;font-family: Book Antiqua; font-size: 10pt ;  }
Your visited and active colours are both set to white. Since your background colour is white, they will be invisible in either the "active" or "visited" mode. When you roll over them, you can see them because the hover colour is SteelBlue. Change these colours to something other than white and your problem will be solved.
