The Style settings are available off the main Site Map screen, on the second tab as show below:

window_site_map_settings_style_tab

This tab is where you’ll make your site map fit your overall site design perfectly. Since this is a one-time process (once you’ve done this once, your site map will not need changing again if you don’t want to ) it’s worth spending a few minutes making it look great.

The window itself is split into three parts: The settings and controls you can use (to customize the site map design) on the left, a preview panel on the right-hand-side and options along the bottom of the window with which you select which type of template style you are editing (see the image below to see these selectors, highlighted):

The preview area updates as you make any changes using the controls, so you can see exactly what the changes you are making will look like on the Web page.

The settings, on the left side of the window, comprise the following:

Site Map Title:

Title Text – Enter a title in this box that you would like to appear at the very top of the main panel content for your site map page. This should indicate to the visitor that they are looking at the site map for your site (and if you are using multiple maps, it might be a good idea to identify what type of site map this is also, e.g. Alphabetical or Hierarchical)

Title Text Font – Using the font drop-down selector you can choose the preferred font in which you would like your site map title text displayed.

piece_site_map_settings_font

Title Font Size – Specify a size for your site map title text using this font-size drop-down. Click the piece_site_map_settings_font_size drop-down selector to make your choice from the available font sizes (6pt to 72pt).

Title Font Style – If you would like to make your title text bold, italic or underlined simply click the appropriate button.

Note: these buttons behave just like the style buttons in a regular word processor.

Title Font Color – This control determines the color of your page title text. To choose your preferred text color, either type the color straight into the color text-box or click the button_application_image_browse button, to the right of the color text-box.

This button will launch the Color Picker tool, which you can use to make your color selection. For more information on using the color picker tool, see the Color Picker Selection section in this manual.

Alignment – To align the site map title text to the left, center or right of the site map page, simply click on the preferred option and the text will be aligned accordingly.

Page Title:

It is important to differentiate this text, the ‘Page Title Text’ from the site map page title. This Page Title text refers to the names of pages listed in the site map page list. The title of each page in your site will appear in the site map page list, and it’s this list text that you are formatting using the following controls.

Page Title Text Options – Your site map can display the titles of your Web site pages (in the pages list) in three different formats, to suit your preference:

Use the Page Title – If selected, your page titles (listed in the site map) will appear using the exact same text as is specified in the respective pages’ settings, accessed on the Page Settings tab.

Use the Menu Text – If you choose this option, the pages will be listed by the name you specified for each page, in the navigation menu text setting. Again, this can be viewed (and edited) in the Page Settings tab, for each page.

Use the Page URL – If you would rather use the URL to this page (instead of a page title) you may do so by choosing this final option. Care should be taken when using this option as it may make it harder to understanding your listing (particularly if your page filenames, and so their URL, do not clearly indicate what that page is about).

Click on the preferred option in the options list, to select it.

Have Page Title as an active link – If you would like the Page Titles, within your site map, to be clickable links then check this checkbox.

Page Title Text Font – Use the font drop-down selector to select your preferred font in which the page title text will be displayed.

Page Title Font Size – Specify a size for your page title text using this font-size drop-down. Click the piece_site_map_settings_font_size drop-down selector to make your choice from the available font sizes (6pt to 72pt).

Page Title Font Style – If you would like to make your page title text bold, italic or underlined simply click the appropriate button.

Note: these buttons behave just like the style buttons in a regular word processor.

Page Title Font Color – This color-selector control determines the color of your page title text. Choose your preferred text color by either typing the color name directly into the color text-box or by clicking the button_application_image_browse button, to the right of the color text-box, to launch the color picker tool.

Alignment (Page Title Alignment) – To align the page title text to the left, center or right of the site map page, simply click on the preferred option and the text will be aligned accordingly.

Page Description:

The page description text (if included) will appear immediately below the Page Title in the site map page list. It can really enhance your site map’s page content and so it is recommended that you make use of this feature.

Page Description Text Options – There are two places that XSitePro will look for page description information, when generating description text in the site map page listings. Essentially, you can either use existing page descriptions (entered by you when you created your Web page) or, if you would prefer, you can instruct XSitePro to automatically ‘grab’ a specific quantity of text from the main-panel content of the respective page.

Tip: If you have a page that regularly changes - for example, a newsletter page – then it can be a good idea to use the automatic description option, since the descriptions for your pages (featured in the site map page list) will automatically update.

You can choose from the following seven options:

Use the description from the Web pages info tab

Use the first 25 words from the main panel of the page

Use the first 35 words from the main panel of the page

Use the first 50 words from the main panel of the page

Use the first 75 words from the main panel of the page

Use the first 100 words from the main panel of the page

Do not include a page description

Note: If you use the description from the Web page info tab this will assume that such a description exists for every page listed (you should ensure that this is this case). Any pages that do not have such a description already entered will obviously not display any descriptive text in the site map. If it doesn’t exist, the site map can’t use it!

To correct any missing descriptions, simply go the Page Settings tab for the page in question and enter your descriptive text.

To make your selection, simply click on the desired option in the list. This will select and apply the setting accordingly.

Page Description Font – Using the font drop-down selector you can select one of several fonts, which will instantly apply the selection to the page description text on your site map.

Page Description Font Style – If you would like to make your page description text bold, italic or underlined click the appropriate style button. Clicking the same style button a second time will then remove the style.

Page URL:

Page URL Options – As with some of the other settings above, there are some options as to how your URL text is formatted in the site map page listings.

Basically, you can choose whether to use the full path to the page in question (in the format: http://www.yoursite.com/page.html) or alternatively the actual name of the page (as specified in the Page Settings tab, for the page in question).

This latter option is useful where you have opted to use the URL already (in the Page Title settings, earlier in this section). This avoids repetition in the listing and ensures that there is a legible name for every page in the site map page list, that your visitors will be able to understand.

In both cases (full path, or page title) the links can be either active (taking the visitor to the path, if clicked) or inactive as preferred.

The five options from which you can make your selection are:

Include the URL as an active link

Include the URL as an inactive link

Include the file name as an active link

Include the file name as an inactive link

Do not include a URL or page link

To choose your preferred option, click on the option within the list and the setting will be applied.

Page URL Font – Using this font drop-down selector you can select a preferred font in which you would like the page URL text displayed.

Indents and Spacing:

Indenting certain elements within the list can be a great way of making your site map page list more readable – breaking up what might otherwise seem like a large ‘block’ of text.

Indentation Options – Experiment with the checkbox controls, listed below, to see if they improve the appearance of your page.

The indentation options available are:

Indent Page Title

Indent Page Description

Indent Page URL

Indent Sub Pages

Include Space between Page Entries

Note: You can select multiple options if required.

Once you have decided on which (if any) of the indentation options looks best, make sure you check the respective checkbox(es) before moving on.

Space Between Pages – If you selected the "Include Space between Page Entries" option, above, then you can use this value to determine the space in pixels between the list entries. Simply use the up/down scroll arrows to increase/decrease the settings accordingly.

Pagination Links:

Pagination Font – Using this font drop-down selector you can select a preferred font in which you would like the pagination text displayed.
