Follow these 10 steps and you’ll have a great looking auto-updating RSS feed on your Web page in just a few minutes.

Click on the Designer tab for the Web page in which you would like to insert the RSS Feed.

Right click on the page where you would like the RSS Feed to be displayed.

Select 'RSS Feed Wizard...' from the right-click menu.

The RSS Feed Wizard window will appear.

There are three tabs on this window. On the first tab you will select the feed you want to insert on the page and on the second tab you will set up exactly how the feed will look on your Web page. The third tab allows you to set up PHP Processing for your RSS feed.

There are two sides to the Feed Selection screen. On the left hand side will be a long list of RSS feeds broken down into many categories such as Business, Comedy, Communications, Current Affairs, etc.

On the right hand side you will see details of any selected feeds. This will include the name, the url and a brief description.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that the list of feeds is up-to-date. To do this simply click on the button labeled Update Feed List. You will need to have access to the Internet to carry out the update. If you are not currently connected skip this step and proceed to step 6.

The updating process usually takes just a couple of minutes. Once it has been completed a dialog window will appear to tell you how many new feeds have been added, how many have changed and how many have been deleted.

The feed list is updated on a monthly basis so it isn’t necessary to carry out the update procedure every time you add a new feed.

To select the feed you want to insert, double click on any of the major categories (e.g. business). A list of the feeds in that category will then be displayed.

Browse through the list until you see a feed that might be appropriate. Click on that feed and you will see the feed name, url and description appear in the box on the left.

When you have selected a feed from the feed list click the Next button to proceed to the style settings tab.

The style settings tab is split into two parts. On the left is a long list of settings that you can adjust to fine tune how the feed will be displayed on your page. On the right is a preview window so that you can see how the changes you make to the settings impacts on how the feed looks.

There are a great many settings you can adjust. Most of them are self-explanatory, but for clarification purposes a description of each appears at the end of this chapter.

One you have adjusted the settings and are happy with how the feed is displayed in the preview window on the right, click the Insert button to insert the feed into your Web page.

After clicking the Insert button an RSS Feed place marker will appear in the Designer window.

Note: The actual feed itself will not be inserted until you publish or preview the page.

IMPORTANT: You need to be connected to the Internet to preview pages with feeds, as the information will be fed in real-time to the Web page. If you are not connected to the Internet a blank space will appear where the feed should have been, as no information will have been fed to it.
