Adding New Links to Links Manager - XSitePro Website Design

Open the Links Manager window by clicking on Links Page button on the Other tab.




Click on the Manage Links button.






The Add / Edit / Delete Links window will appear. This window provides you with a complete list of all the links currently making up your links page or pages. To start with it will be completely blank, but as you add new links it will quickly build up to be a valuable resource.




The window is split into six columns.


Link Title – This is the title of the link. It could be the name of the Web site, the Web sites url, or something more personal such as “My Favorite Gadget Site”.



URL – This is the url of the site you are linking to.



Category – If you are using categories to organize your links page this column will list in which category that particular link is in.



Image – The Links Manager has the ability to capture a screenshot of the site you are linking to. This column tells you whether you have captured that screenshot or not.



Short Desc – This is a short description for the site you are linking to.



Long Desc – This is the long description for the site you are linking to.



There are also options, in the list itself, for editing/deleting individual list entries as required.




Click on the Add New Link button.






The Add New Link screen will appear as shown below:





In this screen there are a number of text boxes which we can either fill out manually, or allow XSitePro to attempt to pre-fill for us, automatically. The information in this screen includes:


URL - This is mandatory and must be entered in order for the auto-fill function to work correctly. This is the Web site to which the visitor, clicking this link in your list, will be taken.



Auto-Fill Data Button - When clicked, this button will prompt XSitePro to visit the Web site specified by the URL entered above, and harvest the information contained in the screen below. It performs this task in the background, so wait a few moments while the process runs. If successful (i.e. if the site is available, and the data exists) the information will appear in the text boxes farther down the screen for you - negating the need to enter it manually.



Link Title - (Can be auto-filled) - This is the title for your link and will appear as the actual link text that your visitors will see, in your links page.



Short Description - (Can be auto-filled) - This is the short description for the link, and featured in the links page where appropriate.



Long Description - (Must be manually entered) - This description forms the descriptive body text that appears on the final link information page if you have opted for the 'maximum page-count' link page structure option. In other words, if you opt for maximum page count, a page dedicated to this individual link (to the Web site listed) will be automatically generated. What you enter in the 'long description' text-box will determine the information featured about this Web site, in your link page.



Page Keywords - (Can be auto-filled) - These are the keywords associated with the page to which you have linked.



Screenshot - When you press the button labeled 'Get Screenshot' XSitePro attempts to capture a screenshot of the Web page at the path specified by the URL entered. A new window will appear displaying a large image for approval. On approval, this image will be resized to a smaller thumbnail image for use in the links' pages. The screen shot below shows the image approval window.




If no image appears, click the 'retry' button to repeat the capture process. When you are happy with the selected image, click the 'accept' button to return to the add link screen.



Category Selector - (Manually set) - If you have multiple links it is a good idea to categorize them for two reasons. First, this makes it easier for your visitors to navigate your links page content, and secondly it lends itself to a neat and ordered page structure, with keyword (or category) focus on each page.


To add a link to a category (all your available categories, which you will have set up, will be listed in the bottom-right corner of this window, as shown below) you simply need to check the relevant category check-box. If you have not set any categories up yet, you will need to do so by clicking the 'Create and Edit Categories' link. This will load the Categories screen as described in the following section.





When you are happy with the information you have entered for this link, simply click the 'Save' button to return to the links window.
